Peracidin's primary active agent is peroxyacetic acid, which has a long history of use as a cleanser and disinfectant.

Peracidin works by oxidative action on cell proteins.

Peracidin has a broad range of activity. It is bactericidal, sporicidal, tuberculocidal, pseudomonacidal, vircuidal, and effective against non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM).

Peracidin is enviornmentally friendly. It decomposes to acetic acid (vinegar) and water.
